Eesti Meedia's new building in Tartu gets cornerstone

April 08, 2016

The cornerstone of a modern six-story office building at Ülikooli 2a in the heart of Tartu that will come to house the editorials of all of AS Eesti Meedia's media companies in the city before the year is out was laid today.

“Tartu is the place of activity of a considerable number of Eesti Meedia media companies or their southern branches that are currently scattered in different locations. We want to bring them all together in a single building,” said CEO Sven Nuutmann.

The building at Ülikooli 2a has six stories the top two of which will house the editorials of Tartu Postimees, Radio Elmar, Radio Kuku, and Kanal 2 in Tartu. “Eesti Meedia companies will get nearly 1,300 square meters of floor space that will satisfy our needs and provide our employees with the most modern working conditions on the market,” Nuutmann said. He added that a stylish and technically modern editorial enables rapid exchange of information and allows the capacity of different media channels to be joined in an operative fashion should the need arise.

As a positive coincidence, the building will house several major companies based purely on Estonian capital. “I believe that an Estonian media company and an Estonian bank like LHV will fit in here nicely, and that we could even call the building Tartu's Estonian House,” said Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas. Today's event revealed that the building will also become home to Estonian fuel retailer Olerex.

The building is being developed by Kaarsilla Kinnisvara OÜ that will celebrate its 20th anniversary on the market this year. The main contractor is Embach Ehitus OÜ that has promised to deliver the building this fall. Sven Nuutmann hopes Eesti Meedia's Tartu units can celebrate Christmas in their new premises.
